European health card for 1 June 2004
Further to the decision of the European Council of Barcelona of March 2002 to create a European Health Insurance Card which would replace all the current paper forms needed, in the framework of the co-ordination of the national social security schemes (Regulation 1408/71) for health treatment during a temporary stay in another country, the Commission adopted on 17 February a communication in which it sets out a detailed roadmap for a progressive replacement of the current paper forms by a European Health Insurance Card.
