How the HSE is organised

HSE Organisation Chart

How other HSE Offices and contacts can help you

To help you find your way around HSE, this is how we are organised.

Inspectors, medical staff and specialists based in HSE offices across the country are responsible for contacts with most of the work activities we cover. These include:

  • manufacturing and heavy industry;
  • construction;
  • quarries and landfill sites;
  • fairgrounds;
  • the activities of local authorities (such as their offices, or facilities run by them);
  • hospitals;
  • schools and universities;
  • agriculture.

If you want to talk to us about, for example, a health and safety problem, the interpretation of the law, or a particular workplace, contact your local HSE office, listed below.

We cover other work activities too. These include:

  • mining;
  • railways;
  • the nuclear industry;
  • the offshore oil and gas industry;
  • the manufacture, processing and storage of chemicals and other onshore major hazards including gas transmission and distribution, pipelines and the road transport of dangerous substances, and;
  • the manufacture, transport, handling and security of explosives.

Doctors and nurses in our Employment Medical Advisory Service (EMAS) can advise you on:

  • the effects of particular work activities on health;
  • setting up occupational health services;
  • first aid; and
  • helping people with health problems when they return to work.

To find out more about this service, please contact EMAS at your local HSE office.
